Medicare insurance is a government-sponsored health insurance program available to most people aged 65 or older and who have paid into Social Security. It’s divided into several sections with differing costs and choices.
Medigap policies (or medicare supplement insurance) are sold by private companies and often cover things that Original Medicare does not, including
- Copayments
- Coinsurance
- Deductibles
Some Medigap policies will even cover medical care when you travel outside of the United States.
A Medigap policy differs from a Medicare Advantage Plan, as it only supplements your Original Medicare benefits. If you already have Original Medicare and you buy a Medigap policy, Medicare will pay a share of covered health care costs.
